Miss Gambhir PE Lead
At Godfrey Ermen Primary we recognise the importance of Physical Education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the role it can play in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development.
We are committed to supporting the long- term health and wellbeing of our children and understand the impact physical activity and sport has on this. We aspire for all children to have experience of a wide range of sport and exercise so that they can find an activity that they enjoy and can pursue well beyond their primary years.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced P.E. curriculum to aid children’s increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. A balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities aims to cater for individual pupil’s needs and abilities.
We strive to offer all children the opportunity to represent our school across a range of cluster and city wide events throughout their primary years.
At Godfrey Ermen, each child receives two hours of PE per week which is carefully mapped across the school to ensure a broad range of skills and experiences. These sessions are delivered by class teachers or our highly skilled support staff.
We use PE Passport as the foundation of our PE curriculum and supplement this with additional specialist led units such as fencing and OAA.
Alongisde the main curriculum we seek to develop every child’s personal skill set through clearly structured steps to success and peer led coaching and mentoring. This is entirely focused around a 'personal best' model. This unique approach helps pupils to not only develop specific movement skills to the best of their own ability but also helps the children to become well rounded members of our school community by teaching them the skills to coach and mentoring others.
Following the acquisition of fundamental movement skills in Key Stage 1 we supplement this with units of work focused around specific sports and outdoor adventurous activities.
At the heart of the PE curriculum lie our PRIDE values. These are thoroughly integrated into our PE sessions as well as our wider curriculum offer:
Personal Excellence
Respect and friendship
Inspire and innovate
Determination
Equality
In addition to the importance placed on PE lessons we also have a broader curriculum offer which includes the opportunities for pupils to take part in extra-curricular sports, activity clubs and competitions such as rounders, netball, bench-ball, archery, hockey, Boccia, Kin Ball, Tri-Golf and more.
Daily physical activity and health enhancing activities also play a crucial role in our offer to pupils including active lessons, active break and lunchtimes and extra-curricular activities.
