School Dinners

Here at Godfrey Ermen Primary School we have a strict NO DEBT POLICY relating to the school meal service.  So school dinners must be ordered and paid for one week in advance. Therefore, all parents paying for lunches will be expected to pay to ensure that they are always £10.50 in credit. Please use the link to the Live Kitchen Portal on this page to Order School Dinners in advance. We are a cashless school so parents can pay for dinners online via School Gateway (see link on this page for details).

Failure to pay dinner money will result in your child being asked to bring in a packed lunch or they must be taken home for their dinner.

A free dinner is currently provided for every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Free School Meals

If you feel you may be entitled to free school meals call at the school office for advice on how to apply. This allowance is a statutory right and is important that you use it to qualify, as the School also receives extra funding to help enrich the curriculum for your child (e.g. to subsidise trips/residential visits etc.).  We will help you all we can with your application, this information is totally confidential and your child will not be identified in School. You should still apply even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2.

If you wish to change the arrangements for your child’s dinner e.g. from school lunch to packed lunch we need to know 2 weeks in advance.

Packed lunches need to be in a suitable container with your child’s name on it. As a Healthy School, we want to encourage children to eat nutritious food throughout the day: this means that they have the right balance of energy to support them in the activities that they do during the school day. Packed lunches should contain nutritional food i.e. a sandwich, piece of fruit, yoghurt, a cereal bar biscuit.

Sweets, chocolate bars and chewing/bubble gum are not healthy and therefore not allowed. On special occasions, children may be given sweets or chocolate at school as a treat. Godfrey Ermen is a NUT FREE school due to some children having nut allergies.

Snack Time

We have mid-morning break when the younger children have fruit provided by the national fruit scheme for all children under 7 years of age.

Children under 5 and those on free dinners are provided with a carton of milk each day. Milk is available to the other children at a small cost levied by the LA. Milk is paid for in advance, per term through the Cool Milk Scheme, please see the link on this page to order your school milk.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school every day, as it is so important to stay hydrated. The
children have plenty of opportunities to re-fill the bottles throughout the day, so there is no need to send in a
large bottle – only bottles that are sized around 500ml - 750ml please. As the children have on-going access to
water in the classrooms, they can drink water throughout the day, but are allowed to bring a juice drink to have if
they are on Packed Lunches for lunchtime.

Before and After School Care

Local childcare providers Kiddiewinkles provide morning and afternoon sessions in our school building.

The Breakfast Club provision opens at 7.30am.

The after School Club provision runs until 5.30pm.
