Cllr John Mullen - Local Authority Governor

Cllr John Mullen - Local Authority Governor

I am the local authority representee on the governors, I have served over 20 years and it has been an honour and a privilege to do so. I have been an elected councillor for over 18 years representing Barton ward and after the recent changes, Barton and Winton Ward. I hope that I can continue to help the school by the challenge to ourselves and the education teams to get the very best for our children. I myself am degree educated in computer science and I hope that where I can, use that skill to assist the children and the school.

I wanted to serve as a school governor as I believe we should all strive to raise aspirations and by doing so watch the children bloom and be all they can be.

I work closely with the other governors and as a team I can assure you we all have the singular mission of providing the best education we can give.

John is also our SEND and Pupil Premium link governor as well as the chair of the full governing board.

I have taken on the role of Deputy Headteacher in 2 schools and have been a headteacher since 2017; with my first school being St Philip's CE and now Godfrey Ermen where I became headteacher in 2022.

I started my role of Exectuve Headteacher at Godfrey Ermen in February 2022 and became substantive headteacher in 2023. I am really enjoying working with the staff team, the children and all the families as well as with the Governors.

I have worked to continue and further develop the ethos and values of Godfrey Ermen. I am keen to bring my experiences of leadership and into the governance of our school. I look forward to seeing our school go from strength to strength and impact on the lives of our families and wider school community.

I am passionate about ensuring strategies, plans and decisions made about children and young people are reflective, analytical, effective and puts the child at the centre to ensure their best interest is always promoted.

Those who know me will affirm not only my sincerity, honesty and the depth of my commitment but also my tireless, boundless energy with which I do this work.

Since retiring from full time headship  I have worked as a school advisor for the Manchester Church of England Diocese, supporting the leadership of schools across the spectrum in several North West authorities. This includes working with school leaders, providing support and challenge for governors, developing aspects of school improvement and advising on appointments and performance management.

I have 27 years’ experience of serving on a Governing Body in one capacity or another.  I have been a member of 5 IEBs  in 3 different local authorities and am Chair of Governors in another Salford CE Primary school.
